UVBG members have a great history of producing award winning beers, ciders, meads, and wines. Unfortunately, most of these awards were not documented in our web site…time to change that! Here’s the winners from the recent past and we’ll keep trying to dig up award documentation received in the earlier years of the club.

Upcoming People’s Choice Competition (11/09/2024, Bend OR): Hiroshi’s Nickel Mine Porter will be one of the entries poured at Boneyard Brewing. Here’s his entry description put out by Sunriver Brewing for this event.

COHO Pro-Am 2024: Not only did the Umpqua Valley Brewers Guild do well at the Douglas County Fair in both beer, cider, and wine entries (12 ribbons noted earlier), but on 8/12/2024, Hiroshi’s Nickel Mine Porter won a well deserved place in the Central Oregon Homebrewers Organization (COHO) Pro-Am competition. For those of you who may be unfamiliar with this prestigious event, here’s some overview information.

Edited excerpt from COHO Pro-Am website: The Central Oregon Pro-Am pairs homebrewers with commercial breweries to craft unique beers and compete for top honors at a people’s choice judging. The event was organized by the Central Oregon Homebrewers Organization (COHO) and is intended to bring together the Central Oregon brewing community.

This is a non-BJCP sanctioned homebrew competition open to Oregon residents only. Winners will brew their recipe with the pros at Central Oregon commercial breweries. The resulting “pro-am” beers will debut and compete during a tap-takeover at Boneyard Pub on November 9, 2024. Proceeds will go to a charity selected by the winner.

Participating breweries include 10 Barrel Brewing Co., Bend Brewing Company, Bevel Craft Brewing, Boneyard Beer, Bridge 99 Brewery, Crux Fermentation Project, Deschutes Brewery, GoodLife Brewing Company, Spider City Brewing, Sunriver Brewing Company, Wild Ride Brewing, and Worthy Brewing Company.

Hiroshi’s Nickel Mine porter was selected by for a commercial scale-up by Sunriver Brewing Company and he has been invited to supervise and help with the brewing at Sunriver. This porter also won a first place in its division at COHO’s Spring Fling 2024 competition!

The club had a great showing at the 2024 Douglas County Fair! Congratulations to everyone!
